Its structure was to be visually repre\u00adsented and restruc\u00adtured, its interface also analysed and redesigned. I chose the Deutsche Bahn ticket vending machine not only because I found it far too compli\u00adcated to use myself; too often had I also seen customers standing at the machine, looking desperate and without a clue what to&nbsp;do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After my initial research, however, I quickly realised that the vending machine was not solely to blame for the problem. In a survey by the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD), only 12% of the respondents thought the rail fare system was under\u00adstan\u00addable. The following excerpt from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vcd.org\/themen\/bahn\/vcd-bahntest\/vcd-bahntest-20152016\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VCD Bahntest 2015\/2016<\/a> describes the situation well: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vcd.org\/themen\/bahn\/vcd-bahntest\/vcd-bahntest-20152016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VCD Bahntest 2015\/2016<\/a> beschreibt die&nbsp;Situation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe current tariff system in rail transport is charac\u00adte\u00adrised by mutually exclusive local and long-distance tariffs. (\u2026) In addition, (\u2026) there is a variety of special fares, infor\u00admation systems and distri\u00adbution&nbsp;channels\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>It is up to the Deutsche Bahn and the transport associa\u00adtions to solve this chaos. Nevert\u00adheless, I was sure that the structure and the interface of the ticket machine could still be&nbsp;improved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Infor\u00admation architecture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Von der Start\u2013Ziel-Suche \u00fcber die Spezi\u00adal\u00adan\u00adgebote bis hin zur Fahrplan\u00adaus\u00adkunft \u2013 ich wollte unbedingt von den vielen verschie\u00addenen und verwir\u00adrenden Ausk\u00fcnften wegkommen. Im Redesign ist <em>Start\u2013Ziel<\/em> daher die einzige globale Reise\u00adaus\u00adkunft. Dort werden alle Preise und Angebote angezeigt \u2013 vom Sparpreis bis zum Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket wird immer das angeboten, was f\u00fcr die ausge\u00adw\u00e4hlte Reise am g\u00fcnstigsten ist. Im Grunde muss man gar nicht alle Angebote kennen, sondern einfach nur die Suchfunktion benutzen und den g\u00fcnstigsten Preis bzw. das passende Angebot&nbsp;w\u00e4hlen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Standard tickets<\/em> The option <em>Direkt\u00adkarten<\/em> (standard tickets) is for users who already know what they need and are looking for something specific, like a Berlin AB ticket or a Sch\u00f6nes-Wochenende (weekend) ticket for the next month. Other options such as additional cards, business trips and BahnCard (rail card) are grouped under <em>Service<\/em>. <em>Service<\/em> sind weitere Optionen wie Zusatz\u00adkarten, Gesch\u00e4fts\u00adreisen und BahnCard&nbsp;gruppiert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interface<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2010, the interface of the vending machines was revised for the first time in 10 years. Even though the layout looks slightly different with new colours and picto\u00adgrams, almost nothing has changed on the start&nbsp;page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Im Redesign funktio\u00adnieren die drei Haupt\u00adka\u00adte\u00adgorien als Tabs. Unter <em>Start\u2013Ziel<\/em> wird der Prozess mit einer Brotkr\u00fc\u00admel\u00adna\u00advi\u00adgation (bread\u00adcrumbs) etwas \u00fcbersicht\u00adlicher. Unter <em>Standard tickets<\/em> sind die Tickets der Verkehrs\u00adver\u00adbunde, die Tages\u00adti\u00adckets sowie die Monats- und Jahres\u00adkarten separat gruppiert, um die verschie\u00addenen Karten besser unter\u00adscheiden zu k\u00f6nnen. Von \u00fcberall aus verf\u00fcgbar sind die Sprachop\u00adtionen, die Tarif\u00adin\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adtionen und die Hilfe. Die neue Funktion <em>Zug\u00e4ng\u00adlichkeit<\/em> beinhaltet verschiedene Optionen f\u00fcr eine erleich\u00adterte Bedienung wie Schrift\u00adgr\u00f6\u00dfe, hoher Kontrast oder
